Lyrics

I sit and wait
Does an angel contemplate my fate
And do they know
The places where we go
When we’re grey and old
‘Cause I have been told
That salvation lets their wings unfold

So when I’m lying in my bed
Thoughts running through my head
And I feel the love is dead
I’m loving angels instead

And through it all she offers me protection
A lot of love and affection
Whether I’m right or wrong
And down the waterfall
Wherever it may take me
I know that life won’t break me
When I come to call, she won’t forsake me
I’m loving angels instead

When I’m feeling weak
And my pain walks down a one way street
I look above

And I know I’ll always be blessed with love
And as the feeling grows
She breathes flesh to my bones
And when love is dead

I’m loving angels instead

And through it all she offers me protection
A lot of love and affection
Whether I’m right or wrong
And down the waterfall
Wherever it may take me
I know that life won’t break me
When I come to call, she won’t forsake me

I’m loving angels instead

And through it all she offers me protection
A lot of love and affection
Whether I’m right or wrong
And down the waterfall
Wherever it may take me
I know that life won’t break me
When I come to call, she won’t forsake me
I’m loving angels instead

Sinéad O’Connor – Something Beautiful live at the Sugar Club, Dublin. Buried in Deansgrange 🖤

Something Beautiful is taken from the limited edition DVD package Theology. Recorded in the intimate environs of The Sugar Club.

Lyrics

I wanna make
Something beautiful
For you and from you
To show you
To show you
I adore you
Oh you

And your journey
Towards me
Which I see
And I see
All you push through
Mad for you
And because of you

I couldn’t thank you in ten thousand years
If I cried ten thousand rivers of tears
Ah, but you know the soul
And you know what makes it gold
You give life through blood
Blood, blood
Blood, blood
Oh, blood, blood

Oh I wanna make something so lovely for you
‘Cause I promised that’s what I’d do for you
With the Bible, I stole
I know you forgave my soul because
Such was my need on a chronic Christmas Eve
And I think we’re agreed
That it should have been free
And you sang to me

They dress the wounds of my poor people
As though they’re nothing
Saying, “Peace, peace”
When there’s no peace
They dress the wounds of my poor people
As though they’re nothing
Saying, “Peace, peace, peace”
When there’s no peace

Days without number
Now can a bride forget her jewels?
Or a maid her ornaments?
Yet, my people forgotten me

Days without number
Days without number
And in their want
Who’ll dress their wounds?
Who’ll dress their wounds?

Glasgow (No Place Like Home)

Jessie Buckley

I’ve worn out the stones in front of your doorstep
Coming and going, coming and going
You kept the lights on, I always knew that
I should’ve said “thank you” a thousand miles ago
But I pushed you away, put a pin in a map
Then I got lost in the storm

Had to find my own way, make my own mistakes
But you know that I had to go
Ain’t no yellow brick road running through Glasgow
But I found one that’s stronger than stone
Ain’t no place like home, ain’t no place like home

Moon hanging low over my window
Shoebox of dreams hid under my bed
Follow the bright light city of gold
I had to leave to realize all I needed was here
Mama, we both know that there’s nothing
That a little time and Patsy Cline wouldn’t fix

Had to find my own way, make my own mistakes
But you know that I had to go
Ain’t no yellow brick road running through Glasgow
But I found one that’s stronger than stone
Ain’t no place like home, ain’t no place like home

I’ll just click my heels three more times
There it all is, what’s always been mine

Ain’t no yellow brick road running through Glasgow
But I found one that’s stronger than stone
Ain’t no place like home, ain’t no place like home
Ain’t no place like home, ain’t no place like home

Ain’t no place like home, ain’t no place like home

“Trio II” was recorded in 1994 but not released until 1999, when Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, and Linda Ronstadt appeared on Late Show to perform Neil Young’s “After the Gold Rush.” The Glass Harmonica (or Armonica) was played by Dennis James, who remembers the performance in an interview with Rich Bailey in 2002: Rich Bailey: I remember when you appeared with her on Letterman and you discussed the Armonica a bit. How was that? Dennis James: Well, it was a great surprise. A sort of unspoken message in the air to me before the broadcast was “Do not say anything on the air!”. After all, these things are Linda’s appearances. When David L. leaned over his desk and directed a question to me I simply froze- on playback of the dub I can see myself caught and unable to speak. I received a glance from Linda that said to me it was OK and so when he tried again I called back a flip one liner and on things went from there. http://www.ronstadt-linda.com/djames…. The synthesizer player is Cliff Carter. I think the pianist is Robbie Kondor. The Trio altered two lines in their original “Trio II” recording: 1. “in the nineteen seventies” changed to “in the twentieth century.” 2. “And I felt like getting high” changed to “And I felt like I could cry.” Here’s their CD version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykMzS… It’d be tough to imagine them changing the lyrics without first getting Neil’s permission. So to everyone complaining about the lyric changes in this live performance: Don’t blame the show or the network. The changes had been made in the Trio’s original recording. And, we must assume, with Neil Young’s blessing. Update: Quoting Wikipedia: “Parton also released a solo version of the song in 1996, though her version altered the line ‘I felt like getting high’ to ‘I felt like I could cry’ with the permission of Neil Young.”
