Lyrics

Love is like a butterfly
As soft and gentle as a sigh
The multicolored moods of love are like its satin wings
Love makes your heart feel strange inside
It flutters like soft wings in flight
Love is like a butterfly, a rare and gentle thing

I feel it when you’re with me
It happens when you kiss me
That rare and gentle feeling that I feel inside
Your touch is soft and gentle
Your kiss is warm and tender
Whenever I am with you I think of butterflies

Love is like a butterfly
The multicolored moods of love are like its satin wings
Love makes your heart feel strange inside
It flutters like soft wings in flight
Love is like a butterfly, a rare and gentle thing

Your laughter brings me sunshine
Everyday is spring time
And I am only happy when you are by my side
How precious is this love we share
How very precious, sweet and rare
Together we belong like daffodils and butterflies

Love is like a butterfly
As soft and gentle as a sigh
The multicolored moods of love are like its satin wings
Love makes your heart feel strange inside
It flutters like soft wings in flight
Love is like a butterfly, a rare and gentle thing

Love is like a butterfly, a rare and gentle thing

Dolly Parton has always been about the welfare of children, and that much is evidenced in the 1993 song “What Will Baby Be”. Maura O’Connell provides the backing vocals on this song. That voice paired with Parton’s lilting vocals and tender guitar-strumming results in a beautifully cohesive piece of work.

Lyrics

A young couple marries, already fighting
Along comes baby makin’ them three
Trouble’s all he hears from the time he’s in didies
Baby don’t know just what to believe

Angry words and spiteful actions
Baby’s gonna cut his teeth on these
If that’s gonna be the main attraction
What will the baby be, what will baby be

Baby needs love and needs direction
Baby’s first school is the family
For they are only a reflection
Of the things they see, what will baby be

What will baby be after baby is grown
What will baby do if baby don’t know what’s right or wrong
Got to show them love, got to teach them truth
‘Cause what baby is when baby grows up
Well, that depends entirely on me and you
Depends entirely on me and you

Baby thinks God is just a curse word
Never said a prayer ’cause he’s never been taught
They remember and repeat what they’ve heard
So I ask who’s really at fault

So many questions, so few answers
So many lessons we don’t teach
Stumbling through like clumsy dancers
What will baby be, what will baby be

What will baby be after baby is grown
What will baby do when baby is out there on his own
Teach the children how to be all they should be
‘Cause what baby is when baby grows up
Depends entirely on you and me
Depends entirely on you and me
What will baby be

Lyrics
I walked across an empty landI knew the pathway like the back of my handI felt the earth beneath my feetSat by the river and it made me complete
Oh, simple thing, where have you gone?I’m getting old, and I need something to rely onSo, tell me when you’re gonna let me inI’m getting tired, and I need somewhere to begin
I came across a fallen treeI felt the branches of it looking at meIs this the place we used to love?Is this the place that I’ve been dreaming of?
Oh, simple thing, where have you gone?I’m getting old, and I need something to rely onSo, tell me when you’re gonna let me inI’m getting tired, and I need somewhere to begin
And if you have a minute, why don’t we goTalk about it somewhere only we know? This could be the end of everythingSo, why don’t we go somewhere only we know?Somewhere only we know
Oh, simple thing, where have you gone?I’m getting old, and I need something to rely onSo, tell me when you’re gonna let me inI’m getting tired, and I need somewhere to begin
And if you have a minute, why don’t we goTalk about it somewhere only we know? This could be the end of everythingSo, why don’t we go?So, why don’t we go?
Ooh, oh-ohAh, oh
This could be the end of everythingSo, why don’t we go somewhere only we know?Somewhere only we knowSomewhere only we know

Garth Brooks – The River #nashville

“The River”

You know a dream is like a river
Ever changin’ as it flows
And a dreamer’s just a vessel
That must follow where it goes
Trying to learn from what’s behind you
And never knowing what’s in store
Makes each day a constant battle
Just to stay between the shores…and

I will sail my vessel
‘Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
These waters are my sky
I’ll never reach my destination
If I never try
So I will sail my vessel
‘Til the river runs dry

Too many times we stand aside
And let the waters slip away
‘Til what we put off ’til tomorrow
Has now become today
So don’t you sit upon the shoreline
And say you’re satisfied
Choose to chance the rapids
And dare to dance the tide…yes

I will sail my vessel
‘Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
These waters are my sky
I’ll never reach my destination
If I never try
So I will sail my vessel
‘Til the river runs dry

There’s bound to be rough waters
And I know I’ll take some falls
But with the good Lord as my captain
I can make it through them all…yes

I will sail my vessel
‘Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
These waters are my sky
I’ll never reach my destination
If I never try
So I will sail my vessel
‘Til the river runs dry

Yes, I will sail my vessel
‘Til the river runs dry
‘Til the river runs dry

Writer(s): Garth Brooks, Victoria Shaw

This song was released in April 1992 as the fifth and final single from the album. It became his ninth number-one hit on the Billboard country charts in late 1992.

According to Garth Brooks, James Taylor—his childhood hero—was an inspiration for writing “The River”. Victoria Shaw recalled, “We were blank, so blank. And so finally, he said, ‘You know what? Let’s just take a break. What are you listening to on the stereo?’ And I had just bought this new James Taylor CD, so I put it on and were just listening to it, and it got us in a mood.”

Garth Brooks wrote about this song in the liner notes of his album “The Hits”, “It is a song of inspiration… a song that I will be proud of a hundred years from now. Victoria Shaw is a wonderful writer and a wonderful friend. And this is what happens when two dreamers get together and write from the heart.”

This track is also included on three albums that have sold more than ten million copies each in the US: “Ropin’ The Wind”, “The Hits” and “Double Live”.

Lyrics

Temperature Rise, It’s all right

Synapses fried, it’s alright

Got a banging headache and a fever

What a wonderful time to leave her

It’s the Summer, it’s the season

It’s the Summer so throw out all reason

It’s the Summer, it’s the season

So pop all those e’s in

Hold the horses and hold the phone

Hold a match to all you know

Hold a conversation and tune out

Hold on tight, don’t hold out

It’s the Summer, it’s the season

It’s the Summer so throw out all reason

Its the Summer, it’s the season

It’s the Summer so pop all those e’s in

And I know now, and I know why

And I know that it’s oh, it’s alright

It’s the Summer, it’s the season

It’s the summer, it’s the season

It’s the Summer, it seemed worth believin’

And it’s ok, it’s alright

It’s ok, no, I got it

Falling down, falling star

Falling out, no, I got it

And it’s a spell, and it’s a spark

And it’s a moonlight garden

Follow you, anywhere

Follow you, anywhere

Follow you, hold my heart out

It’s the Summer, it’s the season

It’s the Summer so pop all those e’s in

And I know now, and I know why

And I know that it’s oh, it’s alright

It’s the Summer, it’s the season

It’s the Summer, it seemed

worth…believe in

Dolores Keane – The Island by Paul Brady

‘The Island’ by Paul Brady (1985)

County Tyrone native Paul Brady used his song ‘The Island’ to draw some comparisons between the Troubles and the civil war in Lebanon that began in 1975. A pacifistic song highlighting the tragedy of the cycles of violence that Ireland had been experiencing for centuries, it contrasts the peaceful image of a couple making love on an island with acts of terrorism and war.

Lyrics

The Island (Paul Brady)

They say the skies of Lebanon are burning.
Those mighty cedars bleeding in the heat.
They’re showing pictures on the television.
Women and children dying in the street
And we’re still at it in our own place.
Still trying to reach the future through the past.
Still trying to carve tomorrow from a tombstone…

But Hey! Don’t listen to me!.
This wasn’t meant to be no sad song.
We’ve heard too much of that before.
Right now I only want to be here with you.
Till the morning dew comes falling.
I want to take you to the island.
And trace your footprints in the sand.
And in the evening when the sun goes down
We’ll make love to the sound of the ocean

They’re raising banners over by the markets
Whitewashing slogans on the shipyard walls
Witchdoctors praying for a mighty showdown
No way our holy flag is gonna fall
Up here we sacrifice our children
To feed the worn-out dreams of yesterday
And teach them dying will lead us into glory…

Now I know us plain folks don’t see all the story.
And I know this peace and love’s just copping out.
And I guess these young boys dying in the ditches.
Is just what being free is all about.
And how this twisted wreckage down on main street.
Will bring us all together in the end.
And we’ll go marching down the road to freedom….
Freedom

SONNY

R. Hynes

Sonny lives on a farm, in a wide open space Take off your shoes, stay out of the race Lay down your head, on a soft river bed Sonny always remembers the words Mamma says.

Sonny don’t go away, I’m here all alone Your Daddy’s a sailor, never comes home, Nights are so long, silence goes on, I’m feeling so tired and not all that strong.

Sonny works on the land, though he’s barely a man There’s not much to do but he does what he can Sits by his window in his room by the stairs Watching the waves drifting soft on the pier.

Sonny don’t go away, I’m here all alone Your Daddy’s a sailor, never comes home, Nights are so long, silence goes on, I’m feeling so tired and not all that strong.

Many years have rolled on, Sonny’s old and alone His Daddy the sailor, never came home Sometimes he wonders what his life might have been But from the grave Mamma still haunts his dreams.

Sonny don’t go away, I’m here all alone Your Daddy’s a sailor, never comes home, Nights are so long, silence goes on, I’m feeling so tired and not all that strong.

Lyrics

Waking up to kiss you and nobody’s there
The smell of your perfume still stuck in the air
It’s hard
Yesterday I thought I saw your shadow running round
It’s funny how things never change in this old town
So far from the stars

And I want to tell you everything
The words I never got to say the first time around
And I remember everything
From when we were the children playing in this fairground
Wish I was there with you now

If the whole world was watching I’d still dance with you
Drive highways and byways to be there with you
Over and over the only truth
Everything comes back to you

I saw that you moved on with someone new
In the pub that we met he’s got his arms around you
It’s so hard
So hard

And I want to tell you everything
The words I never got to say the first time around
And I remember everything
From when we were the children playing in this fairground
Wish I was there with you now

Because if the whole world was watching I’d still dance with you
Drive highways and byways to be there with you
Over and over the only truth
Everything comes back to you
You still make me nervous when you walk in the room
Them butterflies they come alive when I’m next to you
Over and over the only truth
Everything comes back to you

And I know that it’s wrong
That I can’t move on
But there’s something about you

If the whole world was watching I’d still dance with you
Drive highways and byways to be there with you
Over and over the only truth
Everything comes back to you
You still make me nervous when you walk in the room
Them butterflies they come alive when I’m next to you
Over and over the only truth
Everything comes back to you
Everything comes back to you
