Last week, myself and @theluxalma were overcome with festive feelings and wrote this song at @hibernacle20 . Hold on to your Sleigh Bells! ‘Tis the season.
A Christmas Carol from our favourite duo. Sallay Garnett and Lisa Hannigan have the best musical chemistry I have experienced. Their energy is contagious especially in their rendition of Undertow as part of the Courage project. Rarely you see someone enjoy singing together this much.
Looking back through changes Where we started from Don’t know about you but I knew it wasn’t wrong You know I kept a place For you in my mind And I know you did the same ‘Cause you’re just that kind
So if we knew all along Why did it take so long? We’ve known since we were young So why did it take so long? You know you make me feel loved Make me feel like I’m home So if we knew all along Why did it take so long?
Moving on You and I started looking back Now we’ve got to make up For all the wasted time You know I’d never let you just walk on by From the day that I met you I knew you’d be mine, yeah
So if we knew all along Why did it take so long? We’ve known since we were young Why did it take so long? You know you make me feel loved Make me feel like I’m home So if we knew all along Why did it take so long?
Just started, it’s just started I’m having trouble believing it’s true Just started, just started Now we got nothing to prove
So if we knew all along Why did it take so long? We’ve known it since we were young So why did it take so long? You know you make me feel loved Make me feel like I’m home So if we knew all along
Why did it take so long? Why did it take so long? Why did it take so long? Why did it take so long? Why did it take so long?
When all beside a vigil keep, The West’s asleep, the West’s asleep – Alas! and well may Erin weep When Connacht lies in slumber deep. There lake and plain smile fair and free, ‘Mid rocks their guardian chivalry. Sing, Oh! let man learn liberty From crashing wind and lashing sea.
That chainless wave and lovely land Freedom and nationhood demand; Be sure the great God never planned For slumb’ring slaves a home so grand. And long a brave and haughty race Honoured and sentinelled the place. Sing, Oh! not even their sons’ disgrace Can quite destroy their glory’s trace.
For often, in O’Connor’s van, To triumph dashed each Connacht clan. And fleet as deer the Normans ran Thro’ Corrsliabh Pass and Ardrahan; And later times saw deeds as brave, And glory guards Clanricard’s grave, Sing, Oh! they died their land to save At Aughrim’s slopes and Shannon’s wave.
And if, when all a vigil keep, The West’s asleep! the West’s asleep! Alas! and well may Erin weep That Connacht lies in s1umber deep. But, hark! a voice like thunder spake, The West’s awake! the West’s awake! Sing, Oh! hurrah! let England quake, We’ll watch till death for Erin’s sake
