Lyrics

I still watch you when you’re groovin’
As if through water from the bottom of a pool
You’re movin’ without movin’
And when you move, I’m moved
You are a call to motion
There, all of you a verb in perfect view
Like Jonah on the ocean
When you move, I’m moved

When you move
I’m put to mind of all that I wanna be
When you move
I could never define all that you are to me

So move me, baby
Shake like the bough of a willow tree
You do it naturally
Move me, baby

You are the rite of movement
Its reasonin’ made lucid and cool
I know it’s no improvement
When you move, I move
You’re less Polunin leapin’
Or Fred Astaire in sequins
Honey, you, you’re Atlas in his sleepin’
And when you move, I’m moved

When you move
I can recall somethin’ that’s gone from me
When you move
Honey, I’m put in awe of somethin’ so flawed and free

So move me, baby
Shake like the bough of a willow tree
You do it naturally
Move me, baby
So move me, baby
Like you’ve nothin’ left to prove
And nothin’ to lose
Move me, baby

Ooh, ooh, ooh
Oh baby, oh baby
Move like grey skies
Move like a bird of paradise
Move like an odd sight come out at night

Move me, baby
Shake like the bough of a willow tree
You do it naturally
Move me, baby
So move me, baby
Like you’ve nothin’ left to lose
And nothin’ to prove
Move me, baby
So move me, baby
Shake like the bough of a willow tree
You do it naturally
Move me, baby

Flicker

When you feel your love’s been taken
When you know there’s something missing
In the dark, we’re barely hanging on
Then you rest your head upon my chest
And you feel like there ain’t nothing left
I’m afraid that what we had is gone

Then I think of the start
And it echoes a spark
And I remember the magic electricity
Then I look in my heart
There’s a light in the dark
Still a flicker of hope that you first gave to me
That I wanna keep
Please don’t leave
Please don’t leave

When you lay there and you’re sleeping
Hear the patterns of your breathing
And I tell you things you’ve never heard before
Asking questions to the ceiling
Never knowing what you’re thinking
I’m afraid that what we had is gone

Then I think of the start
And it echoes a spark
And I remember the magic electricity
Then I look in my heart
There’s a light in the dark
Still a flicker of hope that you first gave to me
That I wanna keep
Please don’t leave
Please don’t leave

And I want this to pass
And I hope this won’t last
Last too long

Then I think of the start
And it echoes a spark
And I remember the magic electricity
Then I look in my heart
There’s a light in the dark
Still a flicker of hope that you first gave to me
That I wanna keep
Please don’t leave
Please don’t leave

Daniel O’Donnell – Come Back Paddy Reilly to Ballyjamesduff by Percy French #Cavan  🇮🇪 😀 with thanks to RTE

67,806 views May 6, 2012

Daniel performs the popular Irish ballad by Percy French at the Green Glens Arena in Millstreet, County Cork on New Year’s Eve 1994.

Lyrics

The Garden of Eden has vanished, they say

But I know the lie of it still;

Just turn to the left at the bridge of Finea

And stop when halfway to Cootehill.

‘Tis there I will find it, I know sure enough

When fortune has come to me call,

Oh the grass it is green around Ballyjamesduff

And the blue sky is over it all.

And tones that are tender and tones that are gruff

Are whispering over the sea,

Come back, Paddy Reilly to Ballyjamesduff

Come home, Paddy Reilly, to me.

My mother once told me that when I was born

The day that I first saw the light,

I looked down the street on that very first morn

And gave a great crow of delight.

Now most newborn babies appear in a huff,

And start with a sorrowful squall,

But I knew I was born in Ballyjamesduff

And that’s why I smiled on them all.

The baby’s a man, now he’s toil-worn and tough

Still, whispers come over the sea,

Come back, Paddy Reilly to Ballyjamesduff

Come home, Paddy Reilly, to me.

The night that we danced by the light of the moon,

Wid Phil to the fore wid his flute,

When Phil threw his lip over

Come Again Soon, He’s dance the foot out o’ yer boot!

The day that I took long Magee by the scruff

For slanderin’ Rosie Kilrain,

Then, marchin’ him straight out of Ballyjamesduff,

Assisted him into a drain.

Oh, sweet are the dreams, as the dudeen I puff,

Of whisperings over the sea,

Come back, Paddy Reilly to Ballyjamesduff

Come home, Paddy Reilly, to me.

I’ve loved the young women of every land,

That always came easy to me; J

ust barrin’ the belles of the Black-a-moor brand And the chocolate shapes of Feegee. B

ut that sort of love is a moonshiny stuff,

And never will addle me brain,

For the bells will be ringin’ in Ballyjamesduff

For me and me Rosie Kilrain!

And through all their glamour, their gas and their guff

A whisper comes over the sea,

Come back, Paddy Reilly to Ballyjamesduff

Come home, Paddy Reilly, to me.

“Trio II” was recorded in 1994 but not released until 1999, when Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, and Linda Ronstadt appeared on Late Show to perform Neil Young’s “After the Gold Rush.” The Glass Harmonica (or Armonica) was played by Dennis James, who remembers the performance in an interview with Rich Bailey in 2002: Rich Bailey: I remember when you appeared with her on Letterman and you discussed the Armonica a bit. How was that? Dennis James: Well, it was a great surprise. A sort of unspoken message in the air to me before the broadcast was “Do not say anything on the air!”. After all, these things are Linda’s appearances. When David L. leaned over his desk and directed a question to me I simply froze- on playback of the dub I can see myself caught and unable to speak. I received a glance from Linda that said to me it was OK and so when he tried again I called back a flip one liner and on things went from there. http://www.ronstadt-linda.com/djames…. The synthesizer player is Cliff Carter. I think the pianist is Robbie Kondor. The Trio altered two lines in their original “Trio II” recording: 1. “in the nineteen seventies” changed to “in the twentieth century.” 2. “And I felt like getting high” changed to “And I felt like I could cry.” Here’s their CD version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykMzS… It’d be tough to imagine them changing the lyrics without first getting Neil’s permission. So to everyone complaining about the lyric changes in this live performance: Don’t blame the show or the network. The changes had been made in the Trio’s original recording. And, we must assume, with Neil Young’s blessing. Update: Quoting Wikipedia: “Parton also released a solo version of the song in 1996, though her version altered the line ‘I felt like getting high’ to ‘I felt like I could cry’ with the permission of Neil Young.”
