“The newest music video from The Lumineers shows the heartbreak and destruction brought by alcoholism, as it follows the path of fictional Gloria Sparks, a woman whose alcoholism destroys her family.
“Gloria” is the first song released from The Lumineers’ upcoming album III, which follows three generations of the fictional Sparks family. In the music video, Gloria is seen drinking around her infant, fighting with her spouse, and ultimately leaving the scene of a car accident that she caused.”
Understand the things I say Don’t turn away from me ‘Cause I spent half my life out there You wouldn’t disagree
D’you see me? D’you see? Do you like me? Do you like me standing there? D’you notice? D’you know? Do you see me? Do you see me? Does anyone care?
Unhappiness Where’s when I was young And we didn’t give a damn ‘Cause we were raised To see life as fun And take it if we can
My mother My mother she’d hold me She’d hold me When I was out there My father My father he liked me Oh, he liked me Does anyone care?
Understand what I’ve become It wasn’t my design And people everywhere think Something better than I am
I miss you I miss ’cause I liked it ‘Cause I liked it When I was out there D’you know this? D’you know? You did not find me You did not find Does anyone care?
Unhappiness Where’s when I was young And we didn’t give a damn ‘Cause we were raised To see life as fun And take it if we can
My mother My mother she’d hold me She’d hold me When I was out there My father My father he liked me Oh, he liked me Does anyone care?
Does anyone care? Does anyone care? Does anyone care? Does anyone care? Does anyone care? Does anyone care? Does anyone care?
County Tyrone native Paul Brady used his song ‘The Island’ to draw some comparisons between the Troubles and the civil war in Lebanon that began in 1975. A pacifistic song highlighting the tragedy of the cycles of violence that Ireland had been experiencing for centuries, it contrasts the peaceful image of a couple making love on an island with acts of terrorism and war.
Lyrics
The Island (Paul Brady)
They say the skies of Lebanon are burning. Those mighty cedars bleeding in the heat. They’re showing pictures on the television. Women and children dying in the street And we’re still at it in our own place. Still trying to reach the future through the past. Still trying to carve tomorrow from a tombstone…
But Hey! Don’t listen to me!. This wasn’t meant to be no sad song. We’ve heard too much of that before. Right now I only want to be here with you. Till the morning dew comes falling. I want to take you to the island. And trace your footprints in the sand. And in the evening when the sun goes down We’ll make love to the sound of the ocean
They’re raising banners over by the markets Whitewashing slogans on the shipyard walls Witchdoctors praying for a mighty showdown No way our holy flag is gonna fall Up here we sacrifice our children To feed the worn-out dreams of yesterday And teach them dying will lead us into glory…
Now I know us plain folks don’t see all the story. And I know this peace and love’s just copping out. And I guess these young boys dying in the ditches. Is just what being free is all about. And how this twisted wreckage down on main street. Will bring us all together in the end. And we’ll go marching down the road to freedom…. Freedom

Have I told you lately that I love you Have I told you there’s no one else above you You fill my heart with gladness Take away all my sadness Ease my troubles, that’s what you do
For the morning sun and all it’s glory Greets the day with hope and comfort, too You fill my life with laughter And somehow, you make it better Ease my troubles, that’s what you do
There’s a love that’s divine And it’s yours and it’s mine Like the sun And at the end of the day We should give thanks and pray To the one, to the one
Have I told you lately that I love you Have I told you there’s no one else above you You fill my heart with gladness Take away all my sadness Ease my troubles, that’s what you do

And have I told you lately that I love you Have I told you there’s no one else above you You fill my heart with gladness Take away all my sadness Ease my troubles, that’s what you do
